APPALACHIANS

Eastern Region

The portion of the Appalachian Mountains that stretches through the greater part of northern and eastern Kentucky is easily one of the most scenic areas in the United States. With these stunning mountain ranges as a backdrop, you’ll find grand adventure and a friendly welcome always waiting for you in the Kentucky Appalachian region.
Enjoy your stay or drop by for the day at one of our scenic mountain and mountain/lake state parks including the popular Carter Caves State Resort Park. Fish, boat, hike, take an RV ride or follow some of the finest horse trails in Kentucky through lush forests and other amazing natural places. Tour a cave or enjoy world-class golf on one of the remarkably scenic mountaintop courses at Carter Caves State Resort Park.
Appalachian arts, history, crafts, music and culture are celebrated and honored in our festivals, museums, arts centers and historic sites including the Highland Museum and Discovery Center, national Kentucky Folk Arts Center, Coal Miners Museum, Mountain HomePlace and an actual Civil war era working farm as it was in the 19th century, roughly from 1850-1875.

Sandy Creek Golf Course

Where Golfers Feel at Home with Their GameWe like to think that Sandy Creek Golf Course is the Tri-State's most golfer friendly course.  It is a place where you can have a great time, pay a fair price and not spend the entire day traveling around our 18 holes.  But more, this is a place where you will get a warm welcome and the ultimate in friendly service from our staff.

Jenny Wiley Theatre

Jenny Wiley Theatre is eastern Kentucky's only professional theatre offering year round productions.  Since 1964, summers have been magical under the stars at the Jenny Wiley Amphitheatre, located in the beautiful Jenny Wiley State Park in Prestonsburg. In 2014, our new Mainstage indoor theatre opened in Pikeville.  Located at the corner of Second Street and Division Street, this facility offers productions on a year-round basis.  Our Pikeville location is the result of a partnership with the City of Pikeville.
